Anastasiades clinches China deals Thu, 15 Oct 2015
President Nicos Anastasiades is touring China in an effort to boost cooperation between the two countries, including an easier visa process for Chinese tourists and business travellers.
According to reports about the president’s China trip, Cyprus will go forward with setting up fifteen new locations for consular processing of visa to Chinese nationals.
This is considered a tremendous boost to making the process easier in the vast country, where currently visa applicants have to travel to Beijing and often stay overnight in the big city.
The move is also aimed at making business travel less complicated which in turn could help bring more investments to Cyprus.
The Chinese government praised the visit and friendly relations between the two countries as well as Anastasiades’ role in maintaining good China-EU relations.
According to an official announcement during a Wednesday meeting in Beijing, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China Li Yuanchao told Anastasiades that: “We know that you have visited China many times in the past and that you have contributed in the good relations not only between our two countries, but also in the relations of China with the European Union.”
Anastasiades will address a business audience in Beijing on Saturday and then head to Shanghai, the country’s biggest city and a global financial hub, where he is expected to clinch more deals.
Anastasiades is accompanied by Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, Transport Minister Marios Demetriades, Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides, Cyprus Ambassador to China Ayis Loizou, in additional to other government staff. The presidents’ wife, Andri, is also on the trip.
Cyprus property prices point to an accelerating growth, according to the THIRTIETH edition of the RICS (Cyprus) Property Price Index.
